This Week in Nerd News

Or… how about the Last Few Weeks in Nerd News?  I know, I know, I’m a lazy a-hole.  Without further ado…

Avengers Super Bowl Teaser Released

In short, AWESOME!  In this 17 second clip, we get to see a bit of Hulk in action and some of the alien ships attacking New York.  I seriously can’t wait for this movie.  Most times, the thought of leaving my son with someone else so my wife and I can go see a movie makes me a little sad, but, for the Avengers… he’s just gonna have to deal with a sitter for a few hours.  Anyway, here’s the teaser, after the jump.

Marvel’s Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.  And I’ll be there with bells on.

Matthew Vaughn Will Direct X-Men: First Class Sequel

Again, AWESOME!  First Class was quite possibly the best X-flick yet, and a lot of the credit goes to Matthew Vaughn.  He was able to erase the stench of Brett Ratner’s X3 and bring something fresh to the franchise.

I guess it is official: no Kick-Ass 2 in Vaughn’s future.  But, the fact he is returning to the X-Men franchise is good news.  Apparently, he has been kicking around the idea of a sequel for a while.  He had this to say in an interview last year:

I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he’s pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren’t even mentioned.

Hmm.  Oookaaay.  He made it seem possible that Kevin Bacon could try to hijack the Cuban Missile Crisis, corny as that sounds, so I have faith that he could make his Magneto: JFK assassin idea work.

According to Deadline, Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes) will write the script and Bryan Singer will return to produce.

Lead Actors Cast in Evil Dead Re-make

Things finally seem to be rolling on the Sam Raimi- and Bruce Campbell- produced Evil Dead re-make.  Both the male and female lead roles have been cast.

First, Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) has been cast as David, the male lead.  Unfortunately for Mr. Fernandez, David will probably not survive his trip to the cabin in the woods.

Who will?  This woman…

Jane Levy

Who is this, you ask?  Her name is Jane Levy (Suburgatory).  She will be playing Mia, a drug addict who has been dragged to the cabin by David, her brother, and three others to detox from drug abuse.  The friends find the fabled Necronomicon Ex Mortis (roughly translated, the Book of the Dead), and release hell on earth.

As an added bonus, the first image from the set has shown up online.

The Road to Hell

This is the road to hell, aka the road leading to the cabin.

The Fede Alvarez- directed re-imagining of Evil Dead will be released April 12th, 2013.

And, finally, a double dose of Silent Bob:

Kevin Smith Reveals Why He Won’t Be Writing Watchmen Prequels

With DC Comics finally announcing the series Before Watchmen, Kevin Smith was asked why he wasn’t working on the project.

“Talked to Jim [Lee] and Dan [DiDio] about it two years ago. Only passed because I’m not Alan Moore, sadly. If I was Alan Moore, I’d be all over it. As Kevin Smith, I’d likely just make Bubastis “big pussy” jokes and have Rorschach wet himself. Hurm.”

It was originally rumored that Kev was going to be involved with the project, but, obviously, he is not.  I’m glad he shares the same feelings I do about this project.

Also, at his live event, Kevin Smith: Live From Behind, Kev mentioned something interesting.

Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie.

Hells to the yeah.  He didn’t mention much about it, other than it will be a mix of live action and R-rated animation.  I don’t even need to know the details behind this one.  I’ll be seeing it regardless.

That is all for today.  I’ll be back…
