A Very Nerdy Christmas

Posted in etc., Life with tags , , , , , , , on 12/20/2011 by Papa Nerd

Do you have a nerd in your life?  You know, the kind of guy or gal who rarely loves comics, Star Wars (or Trek.  Why anyone likes Star Trek, I’ll never know.  Those shows and movies blow harder than the Star Wars prequels.  That’s saying something.), video games, and the like?  How easy is it to shop for said nerd?  Not easy.  Just ask my wife.

There’s no need to fear, Papa Nerd is here!  I’ll try to take some of the pain out of your Christmas shopping.  Is your nerd a comic book fanboy or girl?  I know how hard it is to find superhero collectibles for someone who seems to have them all.  Luckily, there are people out there who have thought of that.  Check out SuperHeroStuff.com.  They have items for pretty much every superhero out there.  Does your nerd have a hard-on for Superman?  Check this out.

Superman SnuggyI have one of these.  Very comfy.  It sells for $29.95 at SuperHeroStuff.com.  They also have Green Lantern and Wonder Woman snuggies.

Are you on a budget, like me, and find $30 to be a little much?  Try stuff like this:

Superman BobbleheadCool collectible, half the price, at $16.99.  I would like one of these, but I don’t have a place to put it.  Plus, my son would probably destroy it.

Again, they have clothes and collectibles for most superheroes, Marvel and D.C.

If your nerd is more of an all around geek, take a look at ThinkGeek.com.  They specialize in all around nerd stuff, not just superheroes.  Do you watch Big Bang Theory?  If so, you may have seen their Periodic Table shower curtain.  If not, it looks like this:

Periodic Table shower curtain
You can have this on your nerd’s shower for $29.99.  My wife and I both want this one.

For the Star Wars nerd, you may consider something like this:

R2-D2 Ice Cube TraysThese babies will set you back a cool $9.99.

This is my personal favorite of the Star Wars things: a remote controlled lightsaber wall lamp!

Lightsaber Room Light

This will set you back $30, but the Padawan in your life will love you for it.

They have a lot of geek toys, gadgets, and collectibles, so if you need any gift ideas for the nerd or geek in your life, give ThinkGeek.com a look.

Until next time…

I’m Back…

As if anyone missed me.

Anyway, it was a good holiday for yours truly.  Good food and good times with my wife’s family.

Plus, I got to take my first week off from work, since… well, I’ve never had a week off work.  It went by too fast.

My son was as sweet as could be, and he didn’t misbehave the entire time.  Must be some kind of record for a two-year-old.  He had fun seeing his Grandpa and Grandma and aunts and uncles.  It’s always funny to watch him when he sees Grandpa.  He (my son, not Grandpa) screams, cries and hides for about 30 minutes before he remembers who Grandpa is and that Grandpa isn’t going hurt him or his Mommy.

He also got to see his cousins, who were in town from Louisiana.  And, in one of my proudest nerd moments, he had lightsaber duels with his cousins.  He walked around smacking them with a purple Mace Windu lightsaber.  I couldn’t be more proud of my boy.

Mace Windu

Only a bad mutha f****r carries a purple lightsaber.

We also braved Wal-Mart on Black Friday.  In our hillbilly neck of the woods, the hunting and camo section was the busiest part of the store.  Not toys.  Not electronics.  The freaking camo section.  I didn’t fully realize how redneck my part of the world is, until I saw a majority of toothless country sifting through camo t-shirts and overalls as if  they were looking at clothes for church.  It was bizarre.  They were handling the camo like it was priceless art.  They would have wrecked the rest of the store with no thought, but the camo section?  No.  It must stay orderly.

Again, it was a good holiday all around.  I hope Christmas is this much fun.

And less redneck-y.
