This Week in Nerd News

It seems there is no shortage of nerdy pop-culture stuff happening out there.  Each week, I’ll round up some highlights of the things showing up on the nerd radar.

Matthew Vaughn Won’t Direct Kick Ass 2

Matthew Vaughn

That is, if there ever is a Kick Ass 2.

Kick Ass was a great movie.  So was X-Men: First Class.  Unfortunately, for fans of Kick Ass, the X-Men franchise is worth more money, so it seems Vaughn will be focusing on continuing the story he began in First Class.

Never fear, though: he most likely will be involved in Kick Ass 2 as a producer, so he’ll still have his hand in the production.

Co-screenwriter Jane Goldman had this to say on the subject:

“I think the only thing that is fairly sure is that right now, Matthew doesn’t have any plans to direct it. He and I are not currently talking about writing it either. It may well be that Matthew oversees [‘Kick-Ass 2’] in a producer role, and I may also be involved in that capacity. I know that there is somebody that Matthew has been talking to who would be interested in writing and directing that. That would be cool.”

At least we have the Kick Ass 2 comic series by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. to keep us company.

It has been a pretty slow news week, so here’s a new Lipton Brisk iced tea commercial, starring Darth Maul and Yoda:

Also, I know this whole “putting Spider-Man into awkward situations” meme has been around a while, but it never gets old:

Spider-Man Just Shat Himself

Draw Spidey Like a French Girl, Jack!

Friday Makes Spidey Want to Destroy His Eardrums

Spidey's watching the game, dammit!

One more for the road…

Spidey gets punched in the nuts

Until next time…

  1. Even if it is tragic news for us Kick-Ass film fans, it’s good to hear that there’s even talk still going on about a sequel. I was thinking recently that idea may have drifted into production hell and we would never hear about it again, but just knowing that it hasn’t been completely forgotten is enough to cheer me up this weekend. Thanks for the update!

    • Personally, I was hoping that with Millar and Romita doing a sequel series in comics, that a Kick Ass movie sequel would get the green light pretty fast. Hopefully, they’ll only do a sequel movie if it can be done right, and not just because there’s money in it.
